About your trip

NOTE: this trip has been postponed until 2028. While the exact dates are TBD, the itinerary will be very similar. If you have an interest in joining us is 2028, please join the waitlist to move to the front of the queue.

Explore the spectacular South coast of Iceland for 9 days and 8 nights with photographers Colin D. Young & Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove. Half-frozen waterfalls, glacial lagoons, crystal blue ice caves and snow-capped mountains are just a few of the highlights you will experience. At night, if we are lucky, we will see the sky explode with colorful Aurora Borealis.

We will explore the entire Southern Coast of Iceland: the magical waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss, the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stacks, the steep cliffs of Dyrhólaey, the floating icebergs in Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach, a crystal blue ice cave, famous views of the Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn mountains, and much more!

On nights when the weather graces us with clear skies, we will photograph the Aurora Borealis reflected in glacial lagoons and braided rivers, or dancing over mountains and glaciers. For you drone photographers, many locations give us the opportunity to photograph unique Icelandic landscapes from the air as well.

The workshop begins when we meet at the hotel on the evening of March 6th. To break the ice, we will go out for a welcome dinner so we can get to know each other a bit better.

Day 2-7 (March 7-12)

Day 2-7 (March 7-12) image

Exploring the Southern coast of Iceland

We head South and East along the coast toward the charming town of Vik, visiting Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss waterfalls along the way, and spend some time capturing the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and the steep cliffs of Dyrhólaey. We will spend 2 nights in Vik (one on the way East and one on the way back), so we will be able to shoot different things in different light on the way back.

Next we will head to the Skaftafell/Jökulsárlón region for 2 nights. Here we will spend time photographing floating icebergs in the glacial lagoon, finding that perfect glacial ice on Diamond Beach and also exploring a crystal blue ice cave. With luck and clear skies, we will step out of our hotel rooms at night to see the Aurora Borealis dancing overhead!

Then we are off farther East to the town of Höfn, where we will explore the Stokknes Peninsula and the ever-dramatic Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn mountains, and have more opportunities for Northern Lights in super dark skies.

Day 8 (March 13)

Day 8 (March 13) image

Return to Reykjavík

On our last full day of the workshop, we will make our way back from Vík to Reykjavík by driving along the Golden Circle if possible. In the evening, we will have a tasty farewell dinner.
