Arrival in Reykjavík
The workshop begins when we meet at the hotel on the evening of March 6th. To break the ice, we will go out for a welcome dinner so we can get to know each other a bit better.
Note: if you are taking an overnight flight (from the U.S., for example) that arrives in Reykjavík in the early morning, we can book your hotel room for the night of the 5th so that you can check into the hotel when you arrive. (for an added cost)

Day 2-7 (March 7-12)

Exploring the Southern coast of Iceland
We head South and East along the coast toward the charming town of Vik, visiting Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss waterfalls along the way, and spend some time capturing the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and the steep cliffs of Dyrhólaey. We will spend 2 nights in Vik (one on the way East and one on the way back), so we will be able to shoot different things in different light on the way back.
Next we will head to the Skaftafell/Jökulsárlón region for 2 nights. Here we will spend time photographing floating icebergs in the glacial lagoon, finding that perfect glacial ice on Diamond Beach and also exploring a crystal blue ice cave. With luck and clear skies, we will step out of our hotel rooms at night to see the Aurora Borealis dancing overhead!
Then we are off farther East to the town of Höfn, where we will explore the Stokknes Peninsula and the ever-dramatic Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn mountains, and have more opportunities for Northern Lights in super dark skies.

Return to Reykjavík
On our last full day of the workshop, we will make our way back from Vík to Reykjavík by driving along the Golden Circle if possible. In the evening, we will have a tasty farewell dinner.

I recently attended Colin’s Bryce Canyon photography workshop and couldn’t be more impressed. The entire experience was exceptionally well organized — Colin planned each outing so we were always in the right place at the right time for the best light and conditions. Even on a rainy day, he managed to turn it into a creative opportunity, and I came away with amazing images. I’m not new to photography, but I am new to landscape photography and I learned a tremendous amount during this workshop. Colin is a great teacher who clearly loves what he does. I left more confident in my technique, and very grateful to have found this workshop. Highly recommended!

Another great photography workshop with Colin. This time fall, at Bryce Canyon NP. As always, Colin knows where to be, and when to be there. My wife and I came home with a camera full of great sunrise, sunset and Milky Way photos to work on. The group house in Tropic was excellent: great beds, clean bathrooms, plenty of room to sit, discuss, and work on photos. And there are plenty of nice restaurants to choice from in Tropic. So good food, great housing, great comradery -- and great photos!

This was my first "official" photography workshop, let alone my first foray into any type of astrophotography. The Milky Way workshop with Colin was excellent. Night shooting is far more technical than daytime shooting and Colin does a great job of explaining things to beginners. He provided daytime classroom sessions on a variety of topics and assisted us with our editing process. He selected several great locations around Rocky Mountain National Park for our nighttime shoots. The weather gods smiled upon us with four clear and calm nights. I came away from a workshop with not only great photos but also a much higher level of confidence in my own ability to go out and shoot the Milky Way on my own. 10/10, I highly recommend this and any other workshops by Rocklight Photo.

Got to join Colin in a photo workshop in Bryce Canyon NP. A fabulous guide in taking us to the really nice view points at the park. And some nice spots for the Milky way photos. The house was excellent with a big dining table for working on our laptops/pictures. And learned some new tips with working in Lightroom and some b/w aps. Thanks Colin, for the memorable trip and experience.

I have been out with Collin for quiet a few times to capture the moments of nature with cameras. I enjoyed all of the trips. The beauty and grandeur of those places often captured my mind, as I was capturing their images. Photography is about capture the right light at right moments and right places. Colin is a career professional light expert, and has a keen sense and splendid knowledge about light. He helped almost every participant in his workshops to get high quality images. I have about 50 years of experience in photography, and I still learn something new in each Colin’s workshop. I plan to attend more Collin’s workshops.

I attended Colin's Arches and Canyonlands workshop in March of 2023 and it was a fantastic experience. Colin knew the area well and took us to all the best spots at the right times. He was friendly and personable and I would recommend him to anyone interested in landscape photography. Our group had photographers with greatly varying levels of skill and experience and Colin was excellent at meeting their often different needs. This was my first time doing a photography workshop but it definitely won't be my last.
